Hubert E. Jones, Mass. Humanities Governor's Award in the Humanities (2014)

Hubert "Hubie" E. Jones joined the MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning (DUSP) faculty as Associate Professor from 1973 to 1977 and Head of the Community Fellows Program in 1974. He left MIT three years later to become the first black dean of Boston University's School of Social Work, a post he held until 1993.

For nearly 60 years, Jones worked for social change and social justice in Boston, helping to create and lead some 40 organizations that help families enrich their lives and communities. Mass Humanities conferred Jones the 2014 Massachusetts Governor's Award in the Humanities.
